Until recently AA thought enough of its big seats to want $2000ish in July DFW/SXM. In the last week they came down to $1300, which I jumped on, and today down to $1111, which I changed to. Ok, so I have to extend the trip by a day, but I'll manage to get by. There's also a similar price for our April trip, but I refuse to book now with a return layover in MIA of 90 minutes (the better connections are closer to $2000). Uh uh.

Anyway, since my experience AA's DFW fares seem to be the same as left coast fares you west coasters might want to recheck your fares, or book you trips now.

"Left Coaster" (PDX) in geography here, was that RT?

I think hotel and airfare is set to go down, at least for a few months until the economy confidence improves. That was the prediction i read in August.

We live north of Detroit, and fly AA from DTW to SXM, with a connection in Charlotte, N.C. This year our February flight cost $1032/ pp round trip, which we purchased in late August. Plus $14.95 pp for an aisle seat each flight. Total $2195 for the two of us. The year after Covid, we waited until September to book and our flight cost $1150 pp. I am always so envious of the people who live on the East Coast and have direct flights, or at least much lower prices.

When we first purchased our Time Share in 1995, there was a direct flight from DTW to SXM on Travel Charter, a weekly charter flight during the winter months, which could include a package deal with hotel, or just the flight. We flew with them for perhaps 8 or 9 years, and then the company shut down its flights from DTW. Our only choice then was either Delta or AA, and Delta is always quite a bit more expensive from DTW to anywhere in the Caribbean.

Hello KitKat..
We're in the same boat here regarding DTW, fares and choices long gone. We've actually saved over $1000 a few times by driving to Toronto, and actually connecting in CLT or ATL to the same flight we would have had we left from DTW. There used to be several charter flights that aligned perfectly with timeshare weeks as you said, but the option we really miss is USAirways. We had the old B of A USAirways debit card, and we would run even mortgage and utility payments through it for the miles. We'd always have more than enough for seats up front every year.

Cheers!
